Tips on preparing a CD/DVD master

The disc that you provide to a CD/DVD duplication or replication company for making copies of your media is known as the master copy. Below are some helpful tips to help you create a high quality master.

• It is important to use high quality CDs for your mastering. Not all CD/DVD disc brands are the same and it is essential to do proper research in selecting the right brand.

• If you are burning the disc on a laptop, avoid burning when the laptop is running on battery power. Due to the fluctuations in available power, the burned CD may have inferior quality of data.

• Avoid any movement of the drive when burning the disc. Any movement of the drive can cause the laser to jump a track or skip, resulting in a bad disc or errors.

• Having multiple applications open on your computer can hinder the burning process and result in burn rejects or a poor quality disc.

• It is always best to copy your files onto the local hard drive from the network source before burning the disc. This will result in a better quality of your disc.

CD/DVD duplication and replication companies use the master copy to duplicate and replicate more album copies. It is important for the master copy to have a high sound quality and volume, as this will be incorporated into all other copies of your album.
