The steps involved in DVD replication

Replication simply means the transfer of data from a master source onto DVDs or CDs. The process of replication and duplication are not similar and should not be confused. DVD replication is a process that produces duplicates of a master DVD that will play on every computer and DVD player.

There are some pre-requisites for the process of DVD replication. Firstly, there is the checking of unreadable sectors on the master source, before submission to the manufacturing plant. These verifications help to rule out faulty and damaged discs.

The DVD replication process includes pre- mastering, mastering and post mastering stages. During pre-mastering, the structure and format of the supplied media is investigated. In the mastering stage, the disc undergoes digital optimization, and at this point the DVD replication takes place. Both audio-visual and audio related services undergo DVD mastering.
The DVD then undergoes processes like electroplating and moulding before it is ready for release. Pre-press releases ensure that the colour, font, size, and resolution are all correct.

The process of DVD replication requires accuracy, quality and speed from start to the finish. From the creation of a glass master disc with the help of a DVD or digital linear tape, to the use of a glass master for manufacturing additional discs, the DVD replication should not deteriorate in quality.
