DVD types, features and usage
DVD stands for “Digital Versatile Disc” which is a popular optical disc storage media format. It is mainly used for video and other data storage that needs large space. DVDs have the same dimension as compact disc but store six times more data than CDs.
Variation of the term DVD often describes the way data is stored in the disc. DVD-ROM has data which can be read and not written. The wavelength of normal DVD lasers is 650 nm.
There are 6 recordable versions of DVD as follows,
• DVD-R for General
• DVD-R for Authoring
• DVD-RAM
• DVD-RW
• DVD+RW
• DVD+R
DVD-R and DVD+R only record data once like CD-R. However DVD-RAM, DVD-RW, and DVD+RW are rewritten 1000 times the same as CD-RW. Recordable DVD was first used on computers for home purposes only.
